Why functional nutrition?
Certain foods or food components may provide health and wellness benefits. These foods, also known as “functional foods,” may play a role in improving overall well-being and reducing or minimizing the risk of certain diseases and other health conditions. Examples of these foods include fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fortified foods and beverages. But, do consumers really focus on these advantages when deciding which product to buy, and consequently do they prefer functional foods as alternatives to conventional foods. What reasons do they give for their choices? Well, because it works and tastes good.
